Michelle Worvell
Editor, Insurance Age
Michelle Worvell became Editor of Insurance Age after holding the positions of both Features Editor and Deputy Editor since joining the magazine in April 2001.
Having always wanted to follow a career in journalism from an early age, Michelle started her journalistic career by studying for a degree in Journalism on the highly respected BA (Hons) course at the University of Central Lancashire. After leaving the course with a 2:1 degree she joined a multi-level marketing company as a reporter for their in-house magazine – the Today – and just two years later Michelle was promoted to Editor.
Michelle is also the winner of the 2002 British Insurance Brokers' Association Trade Feature Award 2002, was highly commended in the same category in 2004, and highly commended in the trade news category in 2007. Under her editorship the magazine has been highly commended in the Monthly Business Magazine of the Year category in the PPA Awards 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Anthony Gould
Group Editor-in-Chief, Insurance Age
Anthony Gould is editor in chief of Incisive Media's Insurance Division, with overall responsibility for five publications – Post Magazine, Insurance Age, Professional Broking, Cover and Reinsurance Magazine. Anthony is also responsible for the editorial component of Post's brand extensions – from its range of Management Briefings and technical seminars, to the Claims Club, Insurance Question Time and the Business Leaders Forum, as well as playing a key role in the development of the British Insurance Awards and brand extensions for all the publications under his remit. Anthony is also responsible for the overall strategy for the insurance division's online services.
Barbara Bradshaw
Chief Executive, Institute of Insurance Brokers
Barbara joined the Institute at its founding conference in 1987, having previously spent 18 years working for a solicitor specialising in mergers and acquisitions.
Barbara was appointed Company Secretary shortly after the formation and subsequently she became a Director responsible for all constitutional and financial matters.
Barbara took over the reins of the Institute as Chief Executive at the start of 2008 following the untimely death of the original Director General, Andrew Paddick.
Colin Calder
Non-Exec Director and Insurance Market Consultant
Colin Calder is a non-exec director and insurance market consultant with a number of companies that offer brokers, and some insurers, support in the development of their businesses. He has, over many years, been a regular contributor to the Trade Press, industry events and debates on industry issues. His business background covers broker relationship work at AXA Insurance and Commercial Union. He was a director at Polaris for many years, representing both CU and AXA. He also sat on various committees at ABI and CII and represented AXA in its relationship with BIBA.
Tony Cornell
Cornell Consulting
Tony Cornell formed Cornell Consulting in October 1999 after a long career with Commercial Union where he was Head of Broker Development. The consultancy specialises in strategic management consultancy to the independent broking sector and distribution of commercial insurance within the UK market. He is the leading authority in the UK in these areas.
Peter Staddon
Head of Technical Services, BIBA
Peter began his insurance career in 1971 and has worked for a number of insurance brokers covering most general insurance disciplines. He joined BIBA in 1996 to establish, what is now a highly successful technical services department. He was responsible for raising key technical issues with the media – gaining significant broadcast and print coverage for leading insurance issues. Peter has played a significant role in some of the major issues of the day including Employers Liability and Terms of Business Agreements and he has developed ongoing relationships with various government departments.
James Simpson
Principal, IMAS Corporate Advisors
James has spent the last 7 years specialising in selling insurance businesses at IMAS Corporate Advisors. Prior to that he spent 15 years working within the insurance industry and held senior management positions in Sedgwick's and was managing director of Chaucer Syndicates. He is a qualified chartered accountant and has been a chartered insurer.
