Adrian Spencer
Adrian Spencer BA ACII
A graduate of the Management School at Lancaster University, Adrian started his insurance career in 1989 with Eagle Star. Armed with a wide breadth of experience in various functions, such as commercial underwriting, executive complaints, IT strategy, project management and training, he went on to become MMA's UK Claims Operations Manager. A departure from the normal career path took him to Ernst and Young as a Management Consultant specialising in insurance and strategy where he worked with most of the major composites. In 2002 Adrian joined Zurich Municipal as their UK Claims Operations Manager, before taking on his current role as Zurich's Property Claims Director in 2005. His scope of responsibility includes the personal lines, commercial and municipal product lines incorporating the Major Loss and Subsidence propositions within Zurich. Adrian lives in Hampshire with his wife Sue and two children and his interests include sports (sofa based), Bonsai and web-site development.

Alasdair Phillips

Having joined Munters in 2001, Alasdair has overseen a dramatic growth in business with Munters now globally recognised as one of the leading property restoration providers. Alasdair has directed the implementation of award winning initiatives including the Simplicity online project tracking system and a proprietary web based personal development resource. He has overall responsibility for the company's range of innovative new product developments including the Munters Disposals and Building Investigation Services specifically designed to reduce the impact on our environment, whilst generating new revenue streams for insurers. Prior to joining Munters, Alasdair enjoyed over 20 years field-based service industry experience.

Alison Hart

Alison has almost 20 years experience of handling all types of commercial property and household claims where there is a suspicion of fraud or exaggeration. Alison is instructed by many major insurers to handle property claims on their behalf. She has worked on many substantial claims valued over £1million. This includes the high profile Lord Brocket insurance fraud case which resulted in his imprisonment, following the alleged theft of classic motor vehicles from his home.

Andrew Dear
Andrew Dear (AFD) FCII FCILA - Director of Technical Services

Andrew has worked within the insurance claims industry for thirty years, initially for two major composite Insurers, gaining invaluable experience of Property and Liability claims. For the past twenty-two years, Andrew has worked for leading Loss Adjusting practices.

Whilst originally trained as a general Adjuster, Andrew has spent many years handling Major Losses, including Fire Investigations, Business Interruption and High Net Worth claims. Aided by investigatory skills gained whilst investigating Liability claims, Andrew also has developed an expertise in investigating insurance Fraud. He has a good analytical mind and is a thorough investigator, priding himself on an ability to gather accurate and detailed information on site whilst ensuring that Client relationships are protected or enhanced.

Andrew qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute at the age of 21 and became a Fellow three years later. Additionally, he qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters in 1989 and became a Fellow five years later.

He is responsible for AMG's Quality Management Programme and also delivers external and internal training courses on a variety of subjects. He has also featured on several television news reports, and within three episodes of the BBC TV series "Accidents Can Happen".

Whilst based in the Midlands, Andrew works across the UK.

Andrew is Director of Technical Services of AMG Chartered Loss Adjusters.

Doug Shaw
Doug Shaw
Doug joined Pearl Assurance in 1969 and started in the general branch in 1974. He has experience in home, commercial and motor property and liability claims. From 1985 to 1988 he ran Pearl's broker claims, (Hallmark Insurance). He currently handles large/complex home property and liability claims. Doug is currently secretary of the PCF, having been a member since the early 90s. He is also chairman of Insurance Drainage Forum.

Ian Gough
Ian Gough
Ian Gough is the Managing Director of Ian Gough Associates, Fire Safety Consultants, United Kingdom and is the Technical Advisor on Fire Safety for the Association of Building Engineers & the British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association, United Kingdom.

Drawing on over 31 years of experience in fire operation, safety and investigation, Ian has represented the Chief and Assistant Chief Fire Officers Association (CACFOA) at a number of events, speaking on 'Fire-fighter's Perspective of Fires in Sandwich Panel Clad Buildings' and various related issues. Ian also lectures at the Fire Service College, Moreton in Marsh.

He was the lead officer in the City Logistics v County Fire Officer case in the Court of Appeal, and has consequently been a member of the joint CACFOA and Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) working party, reviewing fire safety guidance to warehouse owners.

Retiring from the fire service in June 2004, Ian has written a number of articles pertaining to fire safety and now continues to work as a fire safety consultant. His major clients include: Carlsberg Tetley, Uniq Foods, Historic Scotland and both the Belvoir Castle and Althorp Estates.

Ian was a member of the working group preparing the guidance for factories and warehouses in readiness for the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and is a member of the Loss Prevention Council (Fire & Security) Board.

Having given evidence on many occasions in a variety of courts (Magistrates, Crown and Coroner's) Ian is in the process of becoming a member of the Society of Expert Witnesses.

Jane Milne
Jane Milne
Jane leads on climate change issues for the ABI including liaison with other organisations working on this agenda, for example through chairing the stakeholder forum of UK Climate Impacts Programme and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council's joint research programme on climate change impacts on the built environment. Jane heads the property and creditor team at the Association of British Insurers. The team covers climate change (including flooding), social and financial exclusion, and other issues affecting property and creditor insurances. Prior to taking up this role in 2001, Jane was a career civil servant at HM Treasury and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, working on public expenditure, EU and agricultural policy issues.

Kevin Skillin

Kevin Skillin, CEO and founder of Imperial Consultants Ltd, began his career as a trainee accountant but moved over to contracting and later consultancy in the construction industry. Following qualification as a roofing consultant, Kevin soon began acting for insurers in a validation capacity. His revolutionary approach led to massive avoidance in the paying of non-legitimate claims, betterment and exaggeration Coupled with correct evaluation, thoroughly conveyed to the insured's understanding, this has led to increased customer satisfaction. The basic formula of correct evaluation, specifying, pricing and on-site settlement has resulted in year on year growth for eighteen years.

Lis Shrimpton

Lis qualified in 1996 and joined Keoghs in 1999. She has practised in insurance litigation throughout her legal career. Lis is the team leader for the large loss and commercial team in Coventry and is responsible for the commercial litigation work within Coventry office. She has expertise in product liability, property damage and policy disputes with a particular interest in fraud and arson cases. Lis has experience in handling a variety of recovery claims and is the sole nominated solicitor for all subsidence related recoveries for a well known insurer.

Mark Baxter

Mark was formerly head of business improvement services for CITB/ConstructionSkills whom he represented on the skills for business network management and leadership board. He was the originator of the Supply Chain Readiness Network model currently being used in local authority construction purchasing around the country e.g. "Build Norfolk". Mark spent 4 years in the Middle East as agent/importer of British construction materials and ran his own businesses (a leisure, catering, business consultancy) for 16 years before going "cards in" as a business link manager whilst studying for MBA.

Property Technical Manager, Royal & Sunalliance Insurance
Mark Newton spent 14 years in the public sector, in a variety of technical roles relating to chemicals and fire safety, before joining the insurance industry in 1990 as a risk surveyor. In 1998 he was appointed as Property Technical Manager for Royal & Sunalliance Insurance, responsible for the setting and monitoring of technical standards for property protection.

As a member of a number of industry technical bodies, he has been closely involved in the development of industry technical standards, in particular those relating to the fire performance of Composite Panels. He also represents UK insurers in a number of European standards groups.

Oliver Schofield

Oliver is responsible for the worldwide coordination of Aon's property knowledge. Oliver's prime function is to ensure that the very best property skills and talents that Aon can offer globally are made available to our clients wherever they may be located in the world. Much of Oliver's 20 years in the insurance industry has focussed on the alternative. He started in general risk management where he developed expertise in many areas of captive insurance and risk management consulting, including captive formation and strategic reviews. From there, he moved into the field of captive reinsurance, placing complex traditional and non-traditional reinsurance programmes for captives into the worldwide reinsurance markets. Until taking up his current role, Oliver led Aon's "ART solutions" team. There his focus was on all aspects of the design, marketing and successful implementation of a wide range of evolutionary ART, ERM and captive solutions for corporations from around the world. Oliver is a regular conference speaker and the author of various articles and publications on Asian, European and American business, global insurance markets, captives and ART.

Robert Vandewinkel

Robert Vandewinkel is a senior consultant with Mtech Group. He has previously held senior roles at Eco Concept, Eurogenda and Butler Europe. He has substantial experience with assessment and technical evaluation of new off-site construction products and developing and implementing new manufacturing facilities for innovative construction projects. He has conducted various Environmental Impact Assessments and obtained BBA and BRE approval for several innovative building systems, and he sits on the BRE steering committee for SIP Construction.

Tony Darwall

Tony Darwall is Ordnance Survey,Strategic Development Manager for the insurance sector.

Tony brings 18 years' experience in general insurance to Ordnance Survey at a time when the market for geographic information in the insurance sector is rapidly expanding.

He has performed senior sales management roles as both an insurer and in the service provider environment. Prior to joining Ordnance Survey, Tony was commercial director of a specialist third party administration business.
